Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT)

WindWalkers partners with licensed medical professionals to provide Equine Assisted Therapy sessions for individuals and groups.

Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT) involves a licensed therapist, one or more horses, and the participant(s), creating a dynamic therapeutic environment. The therapist skillfully integrates horses into treatment sessions, using their presence to help participants address personalized goals and enhance overall health, wellness, and functionality.

One of the key components of EAT is therapeutic groundwork with horses, where participants engage in activities on the ground rather than riding. This approach allows individuals to build a relationship with the horse, fostering trust and communication without the added complexity of riding. Groundwork activities can include leading, grooming, and interacting with horses, which encourage participants to develop essential skills such as emotional regulation, self-awareness, and non-verbal communication. These interactions can be particularly beneficial for those who may struggle with traditional therapeutic modalities, offering a unique pathway to healing and personal growth.

The collaboration of licensed therapists, PATH Certified Instructors, and Eagala-certified professionals provides a comprehensive approach to healing. This experiential modality allows participants to explore their challenges in a safe space, fostering meaningful progress in their personal and therapeutic journeys. By leveraging the incredible bond between humans and horses, our programs empower individuals to overcome obstacles and enhance their overall well-being.

The Eagala Model is a team-based approach that includes a credentialed Mental Health Professional, a qualified Equine Specialist, and horses working together with participants in an arena. All interactions take place on the ground, allowing the horses to engage freely and naturally. With the guidance of professional facilitators, participants can reflect, project, and make deep personal connections.

The Eagala Model is highly effective because it embraces the science that we learn best by doing. This hands-on, experiential approach provides the space for individuals to explore their situations, analyze challenges, and discover their own solutionsā€”leading to lasting personal growth and transformation.
