How does being a part of WindWalkers add meaning to your life?
“I fully retired at the beginning of last year, and volunteering at WindWalkers has given me a renewed sense of purpose. It brings positive structure and meaning to my days. I’ve also formed wonderful relationships there—my fellow volunteers have become close friends, and we spend time together outside the barn. Building relationships with the riders and witnessing their physical progress, confidence, and growth has been incredibly rewarding.”
The Jacen Effect: Precision, Regulation, and the Power of Connection
“For Jacen, navigating the complexities of ADHD often involves managing a nervous system in a state of constant over-stimulation. Traditional environments can be taxing, frequently requiring more cognitive energy than is sustainable. However, the therapeutic intervention provided by WindWalkers offers a transformative shift in his developmental trajectory.
The rhythmic, multi-dimensional movement of the horse provides unique sensory input that promotes neurological grounding. To successfully partner with an animal of such power, Jacen is required to access a level of sustained focus and emotional regulation that is often elusive in a classroom setting.
The Ripple Effect: The benefits of these sessions extend far beyond the arena. This newfound self-regulation creates a significant positive impact on Jacen’s daily life: he demonstrates increased frustration tolerance at home, improved social engagement with peers, and a more resilient 'growth mindset' in his academic pursuits. By mastering the art of horsemanship, Jacen is gaining the vital executive functioning skills necessary to lead a productive, confident life."
